My 9/11 story
I was in high school at the time. Sitting in french class behind my friend heather, the principal came on the PA to announce what had happened. It was already an hour or so after both planes had hit. What I remember, though, was very distinctly not being shocked by the news. Hearing news of that nature, for some reason at the time, didn’t phase me. I went on to my next science class and there was one classroom with TV on a projection screen. That’s when I realized just how severe all of it really was. No one said anything. We only watched in shock because that’s all we could do.
I knew my aunt and uncle were working in midtown and another uncle was at 7 world trade. No one in my family could reach them for hours since the phone lines were a disaster. But thankfully later in the evening, one of them was able to get through and let us know they were all safe.
